Quick play finishes are mandatory in this competition and the clock played a significant part in our defeat.

Simon on top board, lost a Rook under time pressure in what appeared to be the better position. He was unable to recover. Harvey on board three suffered a similar fate, losing on time. Trevor on board four survived the threat from a passed pawn on the seventh rank, with his Queen immobilised in blocking the promotion square. He managed to relieve the situation, leaving a drawn endgame. The final game was Amr's, playing the lone non-Dhemrait. Amr had gone a pawn up and appeared to be winning with an advanced pawn supported by Rooks down an open h-file. He overlooked a tactic on the Queen side that equalised material and blunted the attack. His opponent's clock was fast running out when the game ended in a draw by repetition of moves, although there was uncertainty about this - with neither player having recorded their last moves. Since the overall result of the match was not dependent on the result of this game the argument was not pursued. Harrow defaulted on bottom board, so we lost by 2-3.
