Captain's Report:

Middx Lge: Ealing 2 vs Hendon 2
Date: Thursday 27th November 2008
Venue: Ealing
White on odds: Hendon
Result: Ealing 8-0 Hendon

Hendon 2nds visited the Harvester last night. One of their cars broke down on Ealing Broadway and the occupants has to wait for the AA man to come to their rescue. Consequently they were unable to make it to the match and Hendon defaulted two boards.

On board 1 Sainbayar Tserendorj's opponent dropped a bishop around move 6 and headed for a quick defeat. Syrym Shalabayev's opponent miscalculated a sequence of exchanges and ended up 2 minor pieces down and gave up.

On board 5, Amogh Sarpotdar had an exciting game, playing a Dutch Defence, where he had a mass of central pawns that rolled up the board, while his opponent attacked his king. He managed to fend off the attack and with a pawn on the 7th, and his opponent was forced to resign. Board 6 saw an uncharacteristically bold effort by Mark Winterbotham, with his king in a fairly open position. His opponent did not castle and had his king trapped in the middle of the board. Another win.

On board 2, David Ebbett slowly pressurised his opponent who, although resourceful, finally succumbed to a mating attack. Finally, I ended up a pawn up in an ending, let the position slip, but then found a cheap mating net and my opponent resigned. So 8-0 was the final result.
