A flying start to the New Year with a whitewash in the salubrious surroundings of Meadhurst Sports Club. Ealing enjoyed a substantial grading advantage on all boards and made full use of this. Although Meadhurst put up a stubborn rearguard, they were denied any reward for their endeavours.

For Ealing, it was great to see Nick Collacott making a welcome and winning return to the team and George Zusin fending off the flu to record another win. Thanks are also due to Harvey Grewal who agreed to play at short notice and dispatched his opponent with some aplomb.

To an unskilled eye, the game on top board appeared fairly level, but Chris Greenshields had everything in hand, exchanging confidently down to an endgame knowing that zugzwang would leave his opponent helpless.

Last to finish was John Harvey though through no fault of his own, as his opponent somewhat optimistically fished for a saving stalemate when at least three pieces to nil down. When time was called the resignation finally came and the clean sweep delivered.
