Across the room from the Thames Valley First team, Ealing's Hillingdon League firsts were also in action.

After a late start due to traffic delays, Jason Obihara wasted no time at all in demolishing his opponent in a mere 12 moves! His opponent went seriously astray against Jason's Scotch Gambit, blundering away a bishop and exposing his king to an unanswerable attack.

Elsewhere however, the going was somewhat tougher. Hayes enjoyed a big grading advantage on the top three boards and although the Ealing players all put up a stubborn rearguard, this proved decisive in all cases. Captain David Reichenberg narrowed the final margin of defeat by winning his own battle on Board 5.
