Ealing were White on odd-numbered boards.
Chris Greenshields writes: Even I was lost for words after the performance of the 2nd team last night. Hendon 2 are a decent 2nd team in the 2nd division who last year did the double over us. OK, we beat them 8-0 at home, but that was with a very, very strong team including David and Sainbayar. Arriving with 7 players at their club, I thought we were in for a tough match. It was not to be.
I can't report much on the individual games because I had my head down over a complex game that I finally won with only a couple of minutes on the clock. But the first result of the night was a quick win for Miguel on board 3. Mark, sitting next to him, was full of praise for Miguel's attacking skills. On board 5, John deliverd mate down the h-file and on board 6, Salim seemingly won quite comfortably. Next to me Syrym got into an endgame with an advantage (from the Alapin Variation of the Classical French) and seemed to convert it with little difficulty. So by the time I finished my game we were 5-1 ahead, so Mark agreed a draw. Alastair was last to finish with a further win (recovering from a poor opening phase to win a piece in the middlegame - Alastair).
So 6.5-1.5, defaulting one board. That puts us on +5 =2 -2 for the season, giving us 6 points which equals our score for last year's season with 5 games remaining. Congratulations to the players.
