Ealing 4 Richmond 4

In a tight match the first teams of Ealing and Richmond slugged out a four-all draw in division one of the Thames Valley league last night.

Richmond are making a determined challenge for the Thames Valley title this season and they pitched up at the Harvester with a strong team and two reserves. Ealing had one of our best sides this campaign and the result was a well-contested heavyweight draw.

Richmond had to put their captain, who was one of their reserves, in on board two and with a time handicap he could not hold a very much in form Rick McMichael. A loss by Ealing on board four evened the scores but a win by the rejuvenated Simon Randall restored our one point advantage.

Alan Perkins and Sainbayar Tserendorj contributed valuable draws but although John Quinn won well, we had further set-backs on boards one and seven.

Yes it was an honourable result but unless other clubs are very obliging it does rather look as if Ealing's slender hopes of retaining the championship are gone. C'est la vie.
