Ealing 1sts 3 - King's Head 1sts 5
: Created:16 Oct 2009 , byKing's Head once again got the better of Ealing at the Harvester last night in the Middlesex League, division one.
First our heroes:
Sainbayar Tserendorj proved far too strong for his opponent and won quickly. Martin Smith had a tougher task but gradually wore down his adversary. On board two Alan Perkins and King's Head captain, Rick McMichael battled to a draw.
Working hard for the Ealing:
Tony Wells fought bravely on board six as did Veljko Stanisic and John Quinn on one and three but regretfully, all three games were lost. Meanwhile Simon Randall was creating complications around his foe's king but a draw was not agreed until board five was resolved where...
Our captain was playing:
He was lucky not to lose in the opening with the White pieces but still had to shed a pawn. A surprise and perhaps inspired offer of a rook exchange led to a a king and pawn endgame that turned out more difficult to win than Steven Coles with the Black forces expected but with a forced draw in sight, White carelessly lost the opposition enabling Steven with faultless technique to bring home the decisive victory for King's Head.
How do I know this:
Reader, I was that captain.
