On Thursday we entertained Wimbledon D and emerged with a winning position 3.5 - 0.5 to the good with two games remaining to be decided.
The first result of the evening arose in a very unfortunate manner on board 2 when Sam Sarna's opponent's mobile phone rang resulting in a win by default. 1-0 to Ealing.
The lead was then doubled when Jerry Ball's recent run of good form continued on board 5 after he was allowed to pay his favourite French defence.
On board 1 Raj Jhooti appeared to have a level middlegame position but managed to contrive a passed pawn that proved to be unstoppable. 3-0 to Ealing.
On board 6 I emerged from the opening with a highly advantageous position but subsequently missed several winning opportunities. Whilst still a pawn up I noted the match position and offered my opponent a draw that he accepted with alacrity. 3.5 - 0.5 to Ealing.
On board 3 and 4 Steve Gibbs' and Jason Obihara's games were agreed to be adjudicated, claiming a draw and a win respectively.
So we remain in a strong position having scored 5/6 with three games to play.
