Match reports for 25th October

Our Hillingdon League First team got off to a winning start last night and the Thames Valley First team after adjourning 4-1 up, must be very strong favourites to triumph as well.

David Reichenberg's Hillingdon team made a good start to their season with a victory over Hayes 3. I do not know all the details yet but I understand that James Ellis played splendidly to win in a classic style and I was on hand to witness David Reichenberg checkmate his opponent and Anthony Wood outplay his foe. We are defending our title in the Thames Valley League, Division One and in our fourth match of the season Rick McMichael gave us a solid start with a draw on board one. It was unfortunate that boards two and three of Richmond failed to turn up which gave Veljko Stanisic a victory by default and meant that Adrian Waldeck had only just after half an hour to make his moves when he stepped in as a substitute. Simon Randall came under heavy pressure early on but ever resourceful and aided by the clock, he secured the full point. I managed to win over their captain and bishops of opposite colours meant that Sainbayar's game would inevitably end in a draw. Adrian Ociepka is a real find for our club and his assured play in a complicated game led him to adjourn in a position that we believe is a forced win. Miguel Sanchez should get a draw and hopefully a counterattack by Mark Winterbotham will get him a result. 1. R McMichael 0.5 G Wall 0.5
