World Championships Candidates

Eight draws from eight games at classical time limits in the semi-final stage of the Candidates. My misty-eyed posting on 27th April appears nonsensical in the light of subsequent results.

Such is the power of defence in matchplay, ninety odd per cent of games end in a draw in 2011. Criticism of rapidplay and then blitz deciders start to appear unreasonable when so few games end decisively.

These matches are boring and are a bad advertisment for championship chess.
