1st November Hayes A 2.5 - Ealing A 5.5
: Created:02 Nov 2007 , byEaling achieved the double over Hayes in tonight's Thames Valley, Division One match. We stand top of the league with 4.5 out of 5.
We count Hayes Chess Club as our friends but it was a tough struggle tonight before three late wins gave us victory.
Captain, Mike Lamb led the way with a fine win but Simon Randall went down to David Okike on board one. Veljko Stanisic played very solidly to get a draw with the black pieces and Martin Smith battled well to survive a difficult position against Anthony Fuller although towards the end he might have won. Hayes 2 Ealing 2. I was lucky to draw on board five but next door Sainbayar was exploiting in good style the advantage of queen and knight versus queen and bishop in a closed position. Adrian Ociepka made it four wins from four outings in an Ealing shirt against one of our old boys, Martin Crighton and Miguel Sanchez with his flag hanging, checkmated his opponent.
Ealing look to be in prime position to retain our Thames Valley title but with nine matches still to go, we are taking nothing for granted.
