Grischuk and Mamedyarov lead in Beijing
: Created:14 Jul 2013 , byIn this twelve player super-tournament Alexander Grischuk and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov have 5.5 points after eight rounds.
Vesely Topalov won today with the black pieces thereby moving up to joint third place in this event and confirming that his world number four placement in the gradings is no accident. Personally I love his style of chess but remain somewhat unhappy with his conduct in his World Championship match versus Vladimir Kramnik.
Sharing fourth with 4.5 is Peter Leko who was within a whisper of depriving Kramnik of his world championship ten years ago.
At the bottom of the table is Gata Kamsky who gave a good display against the mighty Anatoly Karpov in a contest for the FIDE version of the world championship. Kamsky, rid of his domineering father is still a force in the USA but younger guys such as Anish Giri have overtaken him.
