Mike Lambshire wins 18th Ealing Lightning Championship

There was an exciting finish to the tournament as in the last game of the evening to finish, Mike's opponent lost on time to give Mike victory by half a point.

Hristo Colov performed nobly in second place and he was noticeably the quickest of the top players on the clock. Hristo lost to Mike in the first round but still might have come through to victory if he had not lost mid-tournament to third place finisher Jason Obihara. Congratulations to all three prize winners and particularly to Mike Lambshire who takes his first Ealing Lightning title.

If the tournament had awarded a brilliancy prize for the best mating combination it would have gone hands down to Sam Sarna who produced a stunning x-ray type clincher. In the old days spectators would have showered the board with gold coins but times are hard in 2013.

Also very impressive was Simon Healeas' immaculate kingside attack culminating with a classic rook sacrifice to force check mate.

Lastly congratulations to Zak Humphries who raced around the room and was the the only competitor to play everybody in the room.
