Chris Greenshields writes: Following recent missed opportunities against the top 2 teams, Willesden and Muswell Hill, we faced Harrow, who were second from bottom at the midpoint of the season. Having beaten them away in our first match of the season, I was hoping for a good result.

But as the first completed match fell to our opponents on board 5, I feared disappointment. However, parity was swiftly restored when John finished off his opponent with apparent ease. After that, the results just came rolling in from other boards. Alastair swaggered to his 3rd win in 4 days, Simon appeared to steamroller a Benoni Defence with a lot of pawns, and Syrym, playing next to me, came through fantastic complications to produce a fine attack with rooks and knight (despite going a clear pawn down in the opening). 4-1 to Ealing.

Searching for the final half point, we all managed to draw our games: myself, swindling my opponent in a very passive ending and in time trouble, Dale through gritty defence of R+2P v R+1P, and Harvey who agreed a draw knowing the match was won. So 5.5-2.5, and our best of 3 wins this season. Thanks to everyone who played and congratulations to those who won. And thanks to Harrow and their captain Mike Williams for playing the match in good spirit.
