Carlsen goes two up

: Created:16 Nov 2013 , by

In the last few minutes Carlsen won his second game in a row.

Yesterday Carlsen made the White pieces count. Anand defended against the Queen's Gambit Declined with the Triangle Variation ...d5, ...e6 and ...c6. Carlsen produced an innovation with 10.Qd3 and Anand missed the most accurate defence. 28.Rf6! cemented Carlsen's avantage and Carlsen ground out the victory.

Today Anand's Ruy Lopez Opening did not give him a plus. Carlsen won a pawn but Anand should have drawn the rook and pawn ending. Carlsen's trademark is his ability to put pressure on his opposition in positions where others would be content to draw. At the cost of a pawn Carlsen's king penetrated to e3. Anand cracked and Carlsen ushered his passed f pawn towards the queening square.

Anand needs to retrench otherwise Carlsen will run away with this match.
