Anand put up a good show but when the hammer came down Carlsen proved to have the stronger nerves.

Anand defended bravely with the Berlin Wall and stunned Carlsen with ...b5 but a resolute Carlsen did not buckle and the older player came up well short in the complications.

Back in 1961 Mikhael Botvinnik overcame a near thirty year gap in age to retake his world championship against Mikhael Tal. Retrospect should be acknowledging Botvinnik's achievement as one of the greatest in chess history.
