Simultaneous display
: Created:15 Sep 2015 , by Alastair JohnstoneOn the evening of Monday 14th September 2015 Alan Perkins, our top player, took on all-comers in a simultaneous display at Ealing Chess Club. Fifteen members took him on.
Trevor Bates reports:
Traditionally, the leader takes White pieces on all boards but Alan decided to choose for colour at each board and consequently played White on nine boards and Black on the remaining six. Each opponent was allowed one ‘pass’ if he needed more time to think about his move. Three hours were allowed for the session.
Several of the games were dynamic with interesting tactics and combinations whilst others were more solid and balanced.
When time was called at 10.40pm several games were unfinished and the likely result of these games was then agreed between Alan and his opponent.
In the event Alan won nine games and agreed draws (sometimes generously) in the other six, with no losses. A score of 80%. This was a splendid show of chess skill and everyone who participated had a great evening.
