The world's elite met in the Corus tournament of 2008 and the result was a big surprise to most observers.

Lev Aronian won on a tie break over 17 year-old Magnus Carlsen this weekend with the current world champion and two of his predecessors trailing.

Result:

1-2 Aronian, Carlsen 8

3-4 Anand, Radjabov 7.5

5-6 Leko, Ivancuk 7

7-8 Kramnik, Adams 6.5

9-11 Topalov, Polgar, Mamedjarov 6

12-14 Eljanov, Gelfand, Van Wely 5

It is good to see Michael Adams tied with world champion Victor Kramnik (2000-2007) in the final table and Nigel Short in second place in the B tournament. Both scored well over 2700 for their performances.
