Ealing A 5 - Athenaeum A 3

: Created:31 Oct 2008 , by

Ealing advanced to two out of two after tonight's victory over Athenaeum in division one of the Middlesex league.

Veljko Stanisic set us on our road to victory with a sparkling win on board five. Mike Lamb followed up with a win on the bottom board with the Black pieces, so Ealing had a good early advantage. John Quinn added to our account with a nice win on board three. Cue much talk of Ealing achieving a Middlesex championship in April 2009 but glasses of Pinot Grigio doth not portend success this very evening and Athenaeum fought back with victories on boards six and two.

Adrian Ociepka was very disappointed only to draw but when his opponent launched a surprise counterattack, it was only accurate defence that saved him from losing. So it was all down to our board one, Marko Krivokapic to eke out a team success and he did not let us down. He showed genuine class in breaking through a marginally plus, technical position to expose his opponent's king to a deadly attack.
