Ealing B 5 - Hackney B 3

An exciting match resulted in a home victory for Ealing in division two of the Middlesex league

Chris Greenshields writes:

For the second match in a row, my game was the last to finish so I did not see very much action on other boards. There was an early draw for Mike Lamb, a win for John Harvey and defeat for Salim Shalabayev, which put us at 1.5-1.5. Sainbayar Tserendorj faced a tough opponent on board 1 and, with the Black pieces, was under some pressure and lost. Syrym Shalabayev played a good ending on board 5 to win with Black, a great performance. 2.5-2.5

That left Amogh Sarpotdar, David Ebbett and I to decide the match. My game was extremely complex with both players attacking their opponents on opposite sides of the board. While I was grappling with the position, Amogh (I am told) turned a lost position into a win, while David suddenly found an attack from what seemed to be an inferior position and also won. With my game now irrelevant to the result, my opponent offered a draw which I accepted. So 5-3 was the final result, which I think flattered us but that's chess. I think we were owed a result like that.

So the team has +2 =2 -1 from the first 5 games. We are half way to last year's total of 6/14. A very good performance so far.
