Captains Comment
Last Monday evening we entertained Harrow A and left with a narrow win by 3.5-2.5. There were early draws by Trevor on board 4 and Subas on board 6 then a fine win by Chris on board 2 giving us a 2-1 lead. On board 1 Yad Rahman had at one time what looked to me a difficult position in a Q+B v Q+N ending with a compromised pawn structure against a dangerous passed pawn. However the next time I looked the minor pieces had disappeared and he was a pawn up against an obviously exasperated opponent. Unfortunately Yad's king was vulnerable to checks so he could not make the most of things and a draw was agreed. On board 3 Martin was obliged to tip his king after losing a rook. On board 5 John finally managed to checkmate his dogged opponent just before the call of time.
