Captains Comment
A close fought win over Uxbridge. Nischal started with a good win on board 2 in a Sicilian turned French, in which his opponent admitted he didn’t get any play. Hristo playing black never seemed to get his Caro Kann going and under pressure on his queenside lost on time. Mark, as white, played a closed Sicilian and launched a king side attack with h4 and h5 which looked good but faded out. He should have lost but, after one key inaccuracy from his opponent, he was able to threaten and then deliver mate to his opponent’s king which was stuck in the middle. Chris’s game looked very even going into the endgame with rook, 2 minor pieces and a handful of pawns each, but he squeezed a good win out by making use of his 2 bishops v bishop and knight to win a pawn and the match. Joao’s game had looked even, but he eventually succumbed to Uxbrigse's new Indian recruit, who has a FIDE rating of 2084.
