Drunken Knights 2 Wood Green 10

Created:19 Apr 2011 by:

David did not slay Goliath in last night's London league meeting between title aspirants Drunken Knights and reigning champions Wood Green. Drunken Knights fielded twelve players with a very respectable average grading of 216 but Wood Green with Luke McShane at the head of their team weighed in with an average of 234. In the Oxford v Cambridge Boat Races the heavier crew usually wins and this rule of thumb was not challenged on the chess board yesterday.

Ealing win the Thames Valley title

Created:18 Apr 2011 by:

Tonight's 6-2 victory over a tenacious Staines side at the Riverside club give us an unassailable lead in the league table so Ealing retain the championship that we won last season. Congratulations to Simon Randall, our captain who has a further opportunity to win silverware because Ealing face the same opponents in the Thames Valley cup final. A historic double?

Metropolitan 3.5 Ealing 4.5

Created:14 Apr 2011 by:

Metropolitan are gentlemen and I truly hope that they survive in Middlesex league first division this season. Travel problems affected the arrival of several Ealing players but a Metropolitan player very sportingly distained a win by default and this enabled a tough contest to take place that was only decided in the final seconds of the match.

Ealing 5 Kings Head 3

Created:31 Mar 2011 by:

We have to celebrate because to the best of my knowledge we have not beaten Kings Head this century. The match was nail-bitingly close and Ealing only came out on top in the last few minutes of the match. At this moment (11.33pm) with Hendon still to post the result of their game tonight against Willesden, I can truthfully say that Ealing are top of the Middlesex league division one with nine points from ten matches.

When Mike Bennett's fingers get busy on his keyboard with the outcome at Hendon this evening perhaps our place at the head of the table will be extremely short-lived.

Hatch End A 0 Ealing A 4

Created:08 Mar 2011 by:

Ealing's first team in the Hillingdon league have been quietly slumbering during the majority of the first five months of the season but awoke this evening to handsomely win this poitentially difficult away fixture at Hatch End. Back in September last year it was Hatch End who spoilt our introductory match in division one so we left  their club tonight in excellent spirits. One game is being played on.
