Ealing A 4.5 - Wimbledon B 2.5

Created:01 Mar 2011 by:

Ealing achieved a winning lead in tonight's Thames Valley division one match at the end of a hard fought two and a half hour session. The remaining game is set for adjudication with the Ealing player holding two minor pieces against his opponent's rook in an endgame with four pawns each.

Ealing 5.5 - Willesden 2.5

Created:24 Feb 2011 by:

It's been a busy period for Ealing's Middlesex league first team and we were very pleased to win over a feisty Willesden side. White was the colour of the evening with its pieces scoring the three crucial victories for us.

Hendon 6 Ealing 2

Created:17 Feb 2011 by:

No complaints from us about this result because although we fought hard, overall we were outplayed on the night by a Hendon outfit who at the exchange of teams revealed an average grading of 204 and a 194 bottom board. A substitution after 30 minutes lowered their average to a miserable 202!

Our heroes were Simon Randall with another great win and Alan Perkins and Sainbayar Tserendorj who scored excellent draws.

Ealing 5.5 Muswell Hill 2.5

Created:15 Feb 2011 by:

It was a gritty performance from our point of view but Muswell Hill fought valiantly and can count themselves unfortunate not to record wins on several boards which just might have turned the result around.

So with seven victories from seven matches we can confidently announce that Ealing's first team in the Middlesex league is safe from relegation for another season.

Ealing 7 Hammersmith 1

Created:10 Feb 2011 by:

Everyone played well so that despite a few missing faces, Ealing were big winners tonight in our Middlesex league versus Hammersmith.

Ealing progress to six points from six matches but next week is a brutal test with talented Muswell Hill visiting us on Tuesday and star-studded Hendon keen for revenge at their place on Thursday. 100% after these two would be delirious but as every football manager will tell you it's sensible to take one match at a time.

Good news from Wijk aan Zee

Created:30 Jan 2011 by:

On a day which began disappointingly with Andy Murray's third attempt at a major tennis final being turned back by an admittedly magnificent Novak Djokovic (no criticism of Andy please because he has single-handedly made British tennis respectable for the last five years) it was encouraging to witness on Susan Polgar's site, Luke McShane's gritty defence against co-leader David Navara in the last round of the B section.

McShane's reward was a draw and a share of first prize.

A Change at the top of the London Chess League?

Created:18 Jan 2011 by:

Can Drunken Knights end the long-running reign of Wood Green. For many (too many?) seasons it's been a procession with Brian Smith's Wood Green outfit sweeping away all opposition. Drunken Knights head the table today with a 100% record of five points with Wood Green close behind with 4.5.

It looks likely that the title will be decided on April 18th when the two giants meet and as a neutral it's good to look foward to a competitive struggle for the capital's premier team competition.

Ealing 6 Metropolitan 2

Created:09 Dec 2010 by:

With next week's fixture against King's Head postponed, Ealing were delighted to record victory over Metropolitan tonight in division one of the Middlesex league thereby retaining our 100% record this season. However with only four fixtures decided before Christmas, all the hard work will be in the new year.
