Middlesex Championship Chess Board

Ealing received the Middlesex County championship chess board tonight. Looking through the championship plaques on the board, we are thrilled to discover that after the end of World War 2, our club won four Middlesex titles in a row.

Simon Healeas writes: Following a tense struggle and having just made the time control, Amars relaxed and allowed a black pawn to queen. Congratulations to Jerry who now becomes the inaugural winner of the U-90 tourney. It has been a particularly impressive performance both in terms of the points he scored (four and half out of five) and in the dogged fighting spirit which characterises his games.

Middlesex Final Tables 2008-09 Season

Created:21 Jun 2009 by: Ealing won the Middlesex league championship and our second team finished in a meritorious fifth place in the second division. We are sad to say goodbye to relegated Athenaeum and Willesden and welcome Hackney 2 and Hammersmith, promoted to the first division. Hendon 2 and West London 2 are the unlucky clubs who go down to the third division and King's Head 2 and King's Head 3 take their places. ..more

Ealing chess club was established in 1885 and despite a few rocky years along the way, the club is currently in the best of health and aims to build upon last season's victory in the Middlesex championship and promotion from division three for our second team in the Thames Valley league. We will be fielding seven teams in the 2009-10 campaign whilst maintaining the important club objective of involving every member who wants to play either competitive or social chess. Grade 200 or 20, Ealing welcomes lovers of chess. (Summer programme below)

Thames Valley League

Created:27 May 2009 by: The only match to be decided in the Thames Valley league is between our third team and Wimbledon C. We congratulate Wimbledon A, once again champions of the league and Staines A who were runners-up. Well done Hayes A and Richmond B who return to the first division replacing relegated Kingston A and Wimbledon B. Best of all is final confirmation of Ealing B's third division title. ..more


Ealing players do well in rapid tournament

Created:25 May 2009 by: Last Saturday saw the start of Sainbayar Tserendorj's new series of rapid tournaments. Alan Perkins won the open event with 4/5 and just behind was Simon Randall. Adrian Ociepka played with distinction but it was his daughter, Dominika who won a grading prize in the under 130 tournament in which James Pack scored a meritorious 3/5. ..more
