Those of you that follow Ray's daily Times column will be as astonished as I am that GM Keene ever lost a game. When David Bronstein drew with Mikhael Botvinnik in their 1951 World championship match, Bronstein little realised that his crowning moment would come in the Teeside tournament of 1975 when he beat world number one, England's Ray Keene.

The World Champions live up to their reputations in Wijk aan Zee

World Champion Magnus Carlsen was placed first in the annual Tata Steel tournament and Women's World Champion Hou Yifan lived up to her grading with a very respectable performance against the men.

I read an interesting article on the Chessbase site today. The New York Times has sadly ceased publication of its chess column. I applaud the ethics of its former writer, Dylan McCLain and suggest that a certain British writer on chess could learn a lot from Mr McCLain. Judge for yourself in the below link.
